The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

This book is on one of my Book lists…. but for the life of me I can’t remember which unpublished one it is.

I don’t really know a lot about this book, but it was available from the library and I know I’ve seen the title floating around so I grabbed it.

From what I understand our unnamed narrator and main character is reminiscing about the strange events that happened in his childhood.

The Death of a stranger awakens an unseen horror and causes terrible things to start happening around the neighborhood. The women who live on the farm at the end of the lane seem to know more than they are letting on.

Review:

I spent a lot of this book wondering how it all started.

When I say that I mean this book starts with a guy staring at a pond and then BLAM! suddenly his suppressed childhood memories come back. But filled with witches and terrifying creatures, nothing ever gets explained.

We are watching as this little boy describes what happens over the course of a few weeks at his childhood home. But we don’t ever learn anything about the witches that help him or the monsters they face. All we know is that they came from over the ocean(pond).

I wish we could have heard more about the witches and the land the creatures came from. Other than that, it was an ok book to pass the time with.

Recommend:

Yea, it’s a good book to keep in your purse to read while you wait for you kid’s to be done with their tutoring.
